an answer from my editor re kindle. finally UPDATED

August 27th, 2010

Listen, everybody: I’m as excited about the Kindle release of the first two books as you are, but all I can tell you is, it should have happened on the 25th, and will hopefully happen in the next few (work) days. I will get in touch with my editor and see what’s what. Note: people who work in publishing in Manhattan usually get Fridays off in the summer. So don’t look for an update on that until Monday. And I thank you (1) for your enthusiasm and (2) for your patience.

I’ve been checking Amazon to see when they will release ITW and Dawn on a Distant Shore in the Kindle edition. I noticed the FINALLY do have DDS in Kindle but still do not list ITW on Kindle. Is there any more info on when that might be available. My daughter is waiting for it to be able to start the series. She ONLY reads on her KIndle.

  4. Tammy

Me too! I cannot wait to start this series, but only want to read it on the Kindle, and it does not make sense that the whole series is available except for book one. Is there anything your readers can do to help make this happen?

  5. Hannah

I see Into the wilderness available for Kindle but with a release date of 2035 (?)

  6. rosina

Hannah » ha! that is obviously an error. but I won’t be able to get hold of my editor or agent until Monday to figure it out. A step in the right direction, at any rate.

  7. LMN NY

2035! YIKES! Another 25 years??! LOL …….I look forward to an update on the release date for ITW on Kindle.

As soon as ITW is FINALLY available on Kindle, let’s all of us buy it right away and try to make it appear on the top ten Kindle Top Sellers list!

  9. rosina

Tammy in NC » I do like the way you think.

  10. Linda in NC

I probably won’t be alive in 25 years! lol Can’t wait to reread it (for at least the 3rd time) on my Kindle!

  11. rosina

Linda in NC » That goes for both of us.

Just popping over to tell you about the 2035 hilarity. http://amzn.to/9XKyx8

I tweeted a note to Amazon too, hopefully they’re paying attention.

    Should I pre-order?

  13. Rachel aka Oupelai

    Hey Rosina,

Do you know if it will be available on Kobo (from Indigo in Canada)?

  14. rosina

Rachel aka Oupelai » Sorry, no. I don’t know. I can try to find out.

I just checked Barnes and Noble website and ITW is listed as an ebook! What’s with Amazon?

  16. LMN NY

I emailed Amazon re: the release date of 2035, suggesting that it must be a typo. I received this (silly &) poorly worded response with some many grammatical errors (and belive me, I am NO expert in grammar) that is was almost shocking. At the end of the message was a ? and link asking if the message had been helpful. I said “no” and called them. After pointing out the ridiculous response I had recieved from CustServ regarding my initial email we spoke about the 2035 release date. When I mentioned that I didn’t want to pre-order the book and wait 25 yrs. to get it the CS Rep started to laugh. She said she was going to lookin into it and get back to me in a matter of days. When I sent the original email it was just to give a heads-up to someone in Amazon about what is obviously an error. Somehow it got more involved. If I get any info, I’ll pass it along.

  17. rosina

LMN NY » Now, that was above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you so much for going to such lengths!

  18. Hannah

I preordered despite the funky date– and this morning, I haz Kindle version !

  19. tammy in NC

What??!! So I immediately after reading the last post went to both the amazon Web site on my PC to look AND tried to shop in the Kindle store from my Kindle, and it says ITW is not available. So somehow the digital version must be “out there” ready to go, but amazon is having issues . . . . ????

  20. LMN NY

    Rosina,
No problem. That date has to be a typo and I thought if enough of us contacted Amazon, they would look into it and fix it.
And Hannah, as soon as I saw your message this morning I went back to Amazon to buy the book for my DD and COULD NOT locate it in the Kindle version anywhere. Soooo Frustrating!

  21. hannah

Yes, I noticed that yesterday when I checked the product link from my preorders, first the status was changed to unavailable in the U.S., then the product page was just gone. But I got the book anyway *shrug* I hope they fix the product page soon so the rest of you can get the book!

  22. LMN NY

Here’s the copy of an email response I recieved from Amazon today. I’m not sure I understand what’s happening…….

    FROM AMAZON:
‘Into the Wilderness’ isn’t currently available for Kindle. Your direct feedback to the publisher is helpful.

Occasionally books are removed from the Kindle Store for various reasons. We don’t have any details about why this particular book may have been removed.

We will continue to work with publishers directly and ask that they make their content available on Kindle.

….I did check with Borders and Barnes & Noble and neither of those company’s had it available in eBook either.

This backward release of books 2, 3 and so on, before the first book, ITW is out on eBook makes no sense to me?

Oh well……….I guess we continue to wait and I wish I had thought to do what you did Hannah.

  23. Linda in NC

It’s available at Barnes & Noble now – I just looked. It just doesn’t make sense! Why do Nook readers get it and Kindle readers don’t?
